Dental Bonding in the North Arlington & Kearny Areas
What Is Dental Bonding?
Dental bonding is a restoration procedure in which a tooth-colored resin is bonded to the tooth and cured with ultraviolet light. Dental bonding procedures are more efficient and more cost-effective than veneers or crowns and are still a great way to make cosmetic improvements to your teeth.
When Should You Consider Dental Bonding?
Dental bonding involves applying a composite resin that blends naturally with the color of the teeth in order to repair damage. It is an affordable alternative to more involved procedures like veneers and crowns. Dental bonding with Dr. Ekstein may be right for you if:
- Your teeth have minor chips and flaws.
- Your teeth are mildly crooked or misshapen.
- Your teeth have minor spaces between them.
- You are unsure if your tooth needs more extensive work.
Dental Bonding vs. Crowns and Veneers
Unlike veneers and crowns, bonding can be completed with one office visit because the components do not have to be custom-made in a dental laboratory. The procedure also does not require removing tooth enamel in the same way that veneer and crown procedures do.
On the other hand, bonding does not last as long as other forms of restoration and is less resistant to stains. For this reason, it is categorized as a small cosmetic touchup and not a major restoration.
What Is the Process of Dental Bonding at Smile Design Specialists?
The bonding procedure typically takes between 30 to 60 minutes per tooth. Dr. Ekstein will begin by examining your teeth to determine their current shade. He will then select a resin that blends in naturally with the existing tooth material and prepare the tooth so that the bonding material will adhere properly. To do this, he will roughen the surface of the affected tooth and apply a liquid conditioner. Dr. Ekstein will then apply the bonding resin to the tooth and cure it precisely into place with an ultraviolet light. Lastly, Dr. Ekstein will apply the finishing touches by shaping and polishing the resin for a perfect fit and finish.
