Dental Veneers in the North Arlington & Kearny Areas
What Are Dental Veneers?
Dental veneers are thin, custom-made shells that cover the front surface of your tooth to improve their appearance. Veneers are made of tooth-colored materials like porcelain or zirconia and improve the color of those that have been worn down or stained. They can also be used to create a shape or tooth size that is flattering to the individual’s face shape.
When Should You Consider Dental Veneers?
Porcelain veneers are useful for addressing a variety of dental conditions.
Some of the reasons that you may want to talk to Dr. Ekstein about dental veneers include:
- Stained or discolored teeth
- Crooked or misshapen teeth
- Teeth with spaces in between them
- Teeth that are broken or chipped
Types of Veneers: Porcelain or Zirconia vs. Resin
Porcelain or zirconia and resin are the two types of veneers that are most commonly used. Porcelain and zirconia veneers are more durable and stain-resistant, and also tend to create a more desirable, natural-looking appearance. Composite resin veneers are less expensive than porcelain veneers, but are not lab-made and are directly applied to the teeth.
What Is the Process of Applying Dental Veneers at Smile Design Specialists: Richard Ekstein, DMD?
Two visits are typically required to receive porcelain veneers through Dr. Ekstein. During your first visit, your teeth will be fitted with a veneer, which involves trimming a portion of the tooth so that the veneer can be bonded on top. Next, an impression will be taken of your tooth or teeth and sent to the laboratory where the veneer will be prepared. Lastly, you will receive a temporary veneer that will help you visualize what your final result will be when the permanent veneer is being prepared.
During your second visit, the temporary veneers will be removed and the new veneers will be checked for proper fit and form. Once you and Dr. Ekstein are satisfied with the look and feel of the veneer, it will be bonded to your tooth to give you the smile of your dreams.
