Am I a Candidate?

Am I An Invisalign Candidate?

Invisalign offers Convenience, Comfort, and Discrete Treatment

Many of our North Arlington, NJ patients are aware that they have crooked, crowded, or misaligned teeth, they just don’t know what their options are for fixing these problems. Invisalign can offer many benefits that traditional metal braces cannot such as convenience, comfort, and discrete treatment. But how do you know if Invisalign is right for you? Let’s take a closer look to find out what makes a good candidate for this wonderfully convenient orthodontic treatment.

Here are some of the patients that are best suited for Invisalign clear braces:

1. Adults Who Don’t Want The Look Or Discomfort Of Traditional Braces.

Some adults might feel self-conscious about wearing traditional braces to correct orthodontic issues or dental imperfections. Children over the age of twelve with their second molars grown in can also benefit from Invisalign’s comfortable and smooth design. Pre-teens and older teenagers who are often hyper concerned about wearing ugly metal braces can also utilize Invisalign for their needs.

2. Patients Who Want More Dietary Freedom.

Invisalign aligners allow greater flexibility when it comes to diet because the clear, plastic aligners can be removed before eating. However, Invisalign patients must still brush and floss regularly after meals, and before putting aligners back in. Since the aligners must be in place for approximately twenty-two hours per day to be fully effective, eating out for special occasions can be planned ahead of time.

3. Patients With Dental Devices Or Modifications Already In Place.

Those with other dental modifications already in place often use Invisalign for their orthodontic needs. Bridges or crowns can sometimes present special challenges, so these patients will need to consult with Dr. Ekstein first to see if they can still use Invisalign. Patients may even be able to benefit from a combination of Invisalign and traditional braces already in place.

4. Patients Who Need The Freedom To Remove Their Orthodontic Devices.

Some patients may have activities that make traditional braces uncomfortable or dangerous. Playing an instrument, smiling for pictures, or playing sports can easily be done without danger of interference or damage when patients use Invisalign.

Age Of The Patient Is Important

Age of the patient is a critical requirement for orthodontic treatment. Younger patients may not be responsible enough to adhere to the requirements of clear braces. Additionally, patients of a certain age may not have a fully developed jawbone, so orthodontic treatment may not be a good option yet. Consequently, Invisalign is a great tooth straightening option for adults and teens. If you are uncertain about the age of your child and would like to learn more, please schedule an appointment for a consultation. This will allow your doctor to examine your child and determine if Invisalign is a good option for them at this time.

What Type Of Dental Problems Do You Have?

Many times, a visual inspection is sufficient to help determine a course of orthodontic treatment, but more advanced examination and x-rays may also be needed. For the most part, Invisalign is the best course of treatment for simple cases of crowded teeth, underbite, overbite, crossbite, or gaps between teeth. Accordingly, Invisalign is a great treatment option for fixing typical problems with crowding, crooked, or misaligned teeth. But for cases like severe underbites, overbites, or jaw alignment problems, more advanced orthodontic procedures may be required.

Compliance With Doctor’s Orders Is Critical

Most patients chose Invisalign because they can remove their aligners for eating, drinking, proper oral hygiene, and special events. However, it is important that your Invisalign aligners remain in your mouth for approximately 22 hours a day. Anything less than that could jeopardize the success of your treatment. If you do not follow Dr. Ekstein’s orders or fail to wear your Invisalign aligners for the proper amount of time each day, your teeth could begin to shift back to their position before treatment.

Invisalign Isn’t The Best Treatment For Everyone

Invisalign offers a way to straighten teeth that is removable, comfortable, and nearly invisible. However, despite its many benefits, Invisalign is not the right treatment for everyone. A consultation with a qualified provider is the only way to determine if Invisalign is the right option for you and your needs.

When Additional Treatments May Be Required

Sometimes Invisalign treatment alone is not the best option for patients with severe misalignment problems. In certain instances, some patients may require oral surgery or traditional braces for a prescribed period before getting Invisalign. Consult your doctor for more information on additional procedures for severe orthodontic problems.
